YG has his own definition of what qualifies as the “Best Day Ever.” In his eyes, the only way he can truly capture the summertime vibe in the video for his new single “Pop It, Shake It” is to bring each lyric to life (sample line: “I respect her hustle, yeah/ F–k it, put her in a mansion”) in the ultimate place to party — Miami. On Saturday (April 1), the Compton rapper turned Sunset Island into a movie at his Best Day Ever bash with Snapchat sensation (and one of hip-hop’s favorite party-throwers) YesJulz.
At the shoot on Sunset Island, YG was greeted by every attendee — which includes Partynextdoor, DJs and industry insiders — at his pool party. Once the DJ switched over to his strip club playlist, money showers continuously rained over all the ladies in the pool and jacuzzi. The 4Hunnid crew popped bottles of Belaire champagne and Avion Tequila throughout the day and into the night. While the party raged on land, YG took off from a private dock on a jet ski before a luxurious yacht pulled up with more bottles and models.
Jealous yet? With the help of director DRE Films behind the lens, YG’s mission for the video was to showcase a rambunctious weekend. “It’s uncut and great,” YG told Billboard. “We got a lot of stuff going on in the video that doesn’t happen in a lot of other videos.”
YG’s best day ever quickly turned into his best night ever. After drying off from shooting his jet ski scenes, YG hit the backyard to toss more dollar bills in the air as a mob of women tried their luck in a mechanical bull-riding contest, curated by Miami’s go-to hostess YesJulz. While platters of tequila shots circled the party, attendees snapped photos with a handful of exotic animals, such as a yellow-and-white boa constrictor and a baby gator.
“We got a lot of DJs out here from the East Coast, the South, Midwest, and West Side,” YG continued. “Ain’t nobody doing that type of stuff. Ain’t nobody flying DJs out to have a good time. We out here doing that. It’s bigger than the event or the video shoot. We got the DJs out here shooting the video with us. We got some pretty ladies out here, and we having a good time. That’s what we wanted to make it about — having a good time.”
The party didn’t stop at the mansion. YG and his crew invaded all the major clubs in Miami Beach from Rockwell to LIV on Sunday (April 2) to complete the shoot for his DJ Mustard-produced party anthem. A release date for the video has not been revealed.
