After being granted permission to leave South Africa, Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) will be rolling out a forthcoming album called December 99th, a collaborative project with artist Ferrari Sheppard under their hip-hop duo also named Dec 99th.
The project, produced entirely by Sheppard, was recorded for the last year in South Africa and will drop Dec. 9 via Tidal, per a release according to Pitchfork.

In January, Bey was arrested at Cape Town International Airport for violating local immigration laws and presenting a “world passport” that prohibited him from leaving. He was detained in South Africa for the majority of 2016.
“I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also from Hollywood, effective immediately,” he said. “I’m releasing my final album this year. And that’s that.”
