Wale has long been a superfan of the WWE, since his days growing up in the Washington D.C. area, and is always looking for new ways to get involved with the brand. This year, Folarin teamed up with the WWE to contribute to the WWE 2K19 soundtrack, where he lent Free Lunch EP standout cut “Ungrateful & Thankful” to appear in the yearly video game, which is out on Friday (Oct. 5).
The 33-year-old is joined on the soundtrack by the likes of the Migos, Post Malone, 21 Savage, Eminem, Offset, and more handpicked selections by WWE superstars. “I got a call from my man [Neil Lawi] over there. He asked if I had anything I wanted to submit for [WWE 2K19]. I went in and made a song called “Ungrateful & Thankful,” the Warner Bros. artist tells Billboard.
“Wale is not only incredible at his craft, but he’s a genuine WWE superfan. He understands what we do on a bigger level as entertainers, is incredibly knowledgeable about WWE and is a big fan and supporter of UUDD,” WWE’s The New Day relay to Billboard. “Selecting ‘Ungrateful & Thankful’ as our pick for the WWE 2K19 soundtrack is a small token of our appreciation for his enthusiasm, talent, and friendship.”
Wale actually impressed with his announcing debut during WWE 205 back in August inside Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and continues to search for avenues to expand his palette. “I definitely would do something like that again. It was fun. It was a good break from my normal daily routine,” the EBM artist explains. “I’m a big fan of the brand and the product. I’m excited to be a part of another successful year of the video game. Hopefully, I can do a little more next year.”
WWE 2K19 releases Friday (Oct. 5).
