Vince Staples is always finding new ways to innovatively release music. After modeling his 2018 FM! album after a radio show, the Long Beach native combines his acting prowess with his love for rapping in the debut episode of The Vince Staples Show, which dropped online Thursday (Aug. 22).
The Calmatic-directed debut episode finds Staples receiving a call from his manager, who tells him Malia Obama wants him to perform at her 21st birthday party. Being one to never turn down a bag, Vince heads to the Katching All Fades barber shop for a fresh cut under the advisement of one of the moving company employees at his house.
Once he’s settled down in the barber chair, some kid comes and rips the headphones right out of his hears, which happens to be playing Staples’ newest track “So What?” An all-out brawl ensues, as the 26-year-old springs into action and puts some karate moves on display to effectively knock out his enemies.
It remains to be seen if The Vince Staples Show will serve as the rollout into his next album. The Big Fish Theory rapper inked a new deal with Motown Records via Blacksmith Recordings earlier in August.
