Instead of waiting until July 28 to release his debut album The Autobiography, Vic Mensa elected to let fans hear his story a week early.
On Thursday (July 20), the Roc Nation signee gifted NPR the opportunity to stream his new album ahead of its release date. Executive-produced by No I.D., Mensa taps some of hip-hop’s marquee players for his first offering. Pharrell, Pusha T, Ty Dolla $ign and The-Dream all help Mensa bring his realities to the canvas.
Last week, the Chi-town MC revealed the inspiration behind The Autobiography during his album listening party in New York City.

“Right before I decided that [album] title, I played some music for my mom and my sister,” explained the “Rage” artist. “I was talking real candidly about some situations that were risky. There were names in it and they were telling me, ‘You shouldn’t say all that. You shouldn’t tell these people all that about your life. You should take her name out it. You talked about him, and what happened to them.” And I [said], ‘I have to.'”
