Clad in a black jacket that reads “resist,” Vic Mensa is ready for war in the gripping visual for his single “16 Shots.” The conscious rapper released the video exclusively on Tidal and premiered it at the Justice for Laquan Rally! on Saturday in Chicago.
“I can’t imagine if it was my own momma, got her first son stole from her, he never got a chance,” the Chicago MC rhymes. In the video, a frustrated Mensa is seen walking through the streets of Chicago with chilling shots of a hung body swaying in the air and Mensa’s body lying on the ground, among other drawn outlines of bodies to signify the multiple lives lost at the hands of police. As the powerful video ends, a young man is seen re-enacting the shooting of Laquan McDonald while the actual footage from Laquan’s death is shown, closing out with his body lying on the ground.
