VH1 dominated small screens on Monday night (Dec. 5) with the network’s VH1 Divas Holiday: Unsilent Night special. Festive performances from Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams, Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan, among others, scored two million viewers for the hour-long telecast.
The franchise made its comeback after a four-year hiatus and landed its highest-rated Divas show in more than a decade, according to a release. Love & Hip Hop added to VH1’s takeover on social media as the shows trended on Twitter.
Unsilent Night saw a glamorous performance from Carey, who opened the show with her holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” followed by a sultry rendition of “Santa Baby” from Teyana Taylor. Khan also brought the house down with a powerhouse duet alongside Patti LaBelle as both Divas sang the Aretha Franklin hit ”(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
The special’s executive producer, VH1 and Logo’s executive vice president and deputy general manager Amy Doyle, recently told Billboard that there are plans to bring the VH1 Divas show next year. Said Doyle: “We set out to start a new holiday tradition, and based on the early feedback, it seems like we’ve accomplished that!”
