Over the last several years, Tyler, the Creator has bloomed into a formidable business man outside of music. After thriving on the TV scene with Loiter Squad and The Jellies, the Columbia recording artist has inked a new deal with Sony Pictures Television along with his producing collaborator Lionel Boyce.
“To be partnering with the creative genius of Tyler, the Creator and Lionel Boyce is a dream come true for us as we’ve long been fans of their work. Tyler’s unconventional ingenuity is unparalleled, and we are excited about the prospect of what we can create together,” said SPT President Jeff Frost in a press release.
The duo’s first-look deal with Sony will include “scripted and unscripted projects for television and new media.” The agreement also notes that the companies will work together to develop original concepts with the burgeoning tandem.
Boyce and Tyler, known for their jocular nature, both expressed excitement regarding their latest venture. “@tylerthecreator and I signed a first look deal with Sony for TV. But more importantly I’ve changed my name to Mr. Chapstick,” tweeted Boyce. As for Tyler, his mind was more focused on food than anything else deal related. “Tacos are great with bar-b-que sauce, I’m excited,” he quipped in the press release.
For fans itching for Tyler’s return onto the music frontier, next month he’ll be back with his seventh annual Camp Flog Gnaw carnival in Los Angeles.
