This past summer, Tyler, The Creator released his new album Flower Boy, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Recently, NPR enlisted the Cherry Bomb lyricist to perform tracks from his acclaimed project for a Tiny Desk concert.
Donning a bucket hat with several singers on-hand, Tyler delivered a soulful rendition of “Boredom,” “See You Again” and “Glitter.” With a new tour with Vince Staples penciled in for 2018, Tyler used the famed Tiny Desk platform to warm up for the multi-city jaunt. Under bluish-purple lights, Tyler joyously encouraged the crowd to sing along and actively engage during his 25-minute set.
Last month, Tyler found out that he was nominated for best rap album at the Grammys for Flower Boy. After learning of his nominations, Tyler succinctly tweeted “cool beans” to signify his happiness. He’ll be up against JAY Z’s 4:44, Migos’ Culture, Rapsody’s Laila’s Wisdom and Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN.
