In what proved to be a three-album race for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, this week, Lana Del Rey’s Lust for Life emerged victorious over Tyler, the Creator’s Flower Boy (No. 2) and Meek Mill’s Wins and Losses (No. 3).
Rather than sulk in dismay, Tyler celebrated his project’s success on Twitter late Thursday afternoon (Aug. 3). “106k first week, shoes sold out everywhere including asia and new tv show premieres tonight (nuts n bolts on vice) good week yall,” he wrote.
Despite earning second place honors to Del Rey, Tyler wasn’t a sore loser in his defeat. On Wednesday, the boisterous MC congratulated the singer on her latest accolade. “106 COOL THO IM HYPED VERY HYPED YAY. CONGRATS UNCLE TONY @LanaDelRey,” he wrote.
Flower Boy is Tyler’s highest-charting album of his career and his fourth top five effort overall. His previous endeavor, Cherry Bomb, dropped in 2015 and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The album earned 58,000 equivalent album units during its opening week. Despite losing out to Del Rey, Flower Boy inched past Mill’s Wins and Losses to secure the No. 1 slot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
