Travis Scott and Skrillex just proved they’re a match made in club heaven when it comes to sharing a bill — or a match on the energy front, at the very least — during one deafening night in Sin City.
The DJ/producer and rapper took over KAOS, the Palms Resort Casino’s new night spot, in Las Vegas on Friday night (April 5) and put the venue’s tech-savvy layout to test throughout both of their sets. KAOS is essentially an indoor/outdoor venue that encourages the crowd to flow between the dance floor, which lies beneath a tessellation of LED screens, and the pool, where a Damien Hirst statue the size of a brownstone towers over the water. There’s no wall between the club and this sprawling outside space: the DJ booth serves as the only barrier between them, and its 360-degree spinning capabilities make it so that the headlining talent can face both crowds at multiple points during any given set.
It’s an ideal set-up for athletic artists who can’t stand still, and especially those who are up to the challenge of treating the DJ booth like a jungle gym, a benefit both Skrillex and Scott maximized. Skrillex — who remixed Scott’s “SICKO MODE,” and warmed up the room for his collaborator — must burn more calories while he’s DJing than a spin instructor. Scott saw his energetic level and surpassed it, in that he split his set between the booth and a second stage constructed on the outskirts of the pool.
Over the span of a half-hour, he rolled through a rapid-fire medley of Astroworld tracks, including “SICKO MODE” and “Butterfly Effect,” as well as older cuts, like “Antidote,” off his 2015 full-length debut, Rodeo, and “goosebumps” from 2016’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. The tables adjoining the DJ booth were packed with Scott’s famous fans, too, as Machine Gun Kelly was spotted taking in Scott’s performance up close and Scheana Marie of Vanderpump Rules broadcast her VIP POV through her Instagram Stories.
Scott then traded in his mic and joined Chase B at the laptop to DJ. They took a moment to work a tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle into the mix with “Last Time That I Checc’d” before wrapping in the early hours of Saturday morning.
KAOS’ stacked opening weekend schedule continues on Saturday (April 6), with Marshmello playing the Dayclub and Cardi B, J Balvin and G-Eazy launching their new residencies at the Palms later in the evening.
