Before Travis Scott unleashes his first single of 2019 with “Highest in the Room” on Friday, La Flame stopped by Beats 1 to hop on a FaceTime call with Zane Lowe. The pair chopped it up on Thursday (Oct. 3) about new music plans, ASTROWORLD Festival, and the eventual return of .WAV Radio.
The track was initially teased during a Kylie Jenner cosmetics ad and has been on the setlist for Travis’ shows. “To be honest, it was sort of just something I wanted to perform at the time,” Scott explained. “I was just performing it at a point where I’ve done it at so many shows, and it’s been so fun doing it, I was like, I gotta just drop this, and I’m gearing up for something more special to come following that.”
There may be something more coming after “Highest in the Room,” but don’t expect another Trav album anytime soon. “I’m at the point where I’m just trying to cook up some dope shit and drop ‘Highest in the Room,’ and maybe put something around it,” he continued. “Yeah, I mean I’m in no rush frankly, but I’m taking my time to come up with the next album. I’m always down to drop music and serve some packs to the fans. It’s time for the fans to eat.”
ASTROWORLD Festival is returning to Houston‘s NRG Stadium on Nov. 9, and Scott hinted at Pharrell being one of the headlining performers. “I’ll say we’ll for sure have Skateboard [P] in the building kicking some of them classic tunes that I grew up listening to my whole fucking life,” the Cactus Jack boss teased.
Fans can expect Trav’s .WAV Radio show on Apple Music to come back at some point soon as well. “We ain’t letting that go. I’m gonna drop bombs on that .WAV Radio, that’s for sure coming back,” he stated.
