A quick glance at Tory Lanez‘s Twitter feed reveals all there is to know about his upcoming sophomore album. For starters, the Toronto rapper revealed that while he freestyled on his debut album I Told You, he’s back to writing on the upcoming album and gets vulnerable on a track titled “Hate to Say.”
More importantly, he teased that the full album can arrive at any time, and on Friday (Sept. 22), Lanez unleashed the first taste of his forthcoming project in the form of a trap-laden street anthem titled “Shooters.”
While “Shooters” is a departure from the R&B-infused “Say It” or the Caribbean-tinged “Luv” that catapulted the rapper to mainstream success, gritty street bangers are hardly new territory for Lanez. The song begins with a grand, cinematic beat, and expands into a booming trap melody courtesy of producer C-Sick.
“I came in, I just pulled it off the lot/ Sailing like a pirate how I came in with the yacht/ I came up off of trapping off the spot/ Tell me if you fuckin’ cause it’s backups if you’re not,” he raps, bragging about life’s luxuries and his women.
Lanez previously took to Twitter to update fans on the status of his impending project. In one tweet, he said that his “album is done ! Finishing Clearance and Art and it’s yours” and recently retweeted a T-Pain post that suggests the two have been working together.
