Macklemore made the television debut of his uplifting new solo single “Glorious” on The Tonight Show on Wednesday night (June 28) , bringing along the song’s hook-mistress Skylar Grey, as well as a hyped backing band that included six back-up singers, a guitarist/percussionist and three-piece horn section. The preview single from Mack’s upcoming first solo album in nearly 12 years is the kind of uptempo anthem we’ve come to expect from the sunny-minded Seattle MC.
“You know I’m back like I never left/ Another sprint, another step/ Another day, another breath/ Been chasing dreams, but I never slept,” he rapped over Grey’s bouncing, gospel-y piano backing while wearing a pink polyester bowling shirt that read “Bill.” The song, about making it through the dark and back into the light features Grey singing the affirming chorus: “I feel glorious, glorious/ Got a chance to start again/ I was born for this, born for this/ It’s who I am, how could I forget?”
