Shrouded in sensual lighting, Khalid and Normani took to the Tonight Show stage on Tuesday night (Apr. 10) to perform their smoldering new single “Love Lies,” from the soundtrack to Love, Simon. The duo were definitely feeling themselves as they strutted around the Fallon stage, which was decked out with a neon-blazed, futuristic set.
Khalid, rising from a white leather chair, moved slowly across the stage dressed all in black with white sneakers, while Normani emerged from the background and danced alongside him in a white blazer and tall black heels harmonizing perfectly on the groovy R&B slow-jam. Helping her peel off the jacket, Khalid then dropped to his knees as Normani writhed on a clear chair center stage before the set faded to black in its final moments. The duo smiled at each other as their shadows were illuminated only by the Tonight Show moon in the background. When the song faded out, both singers embraced and laughed, clearly pleased with how their TV debut turned out.
“Love Lies” was released in February, marking Khalid’s best outing on Billboard‘s Streaming Songs chart, debuting at No. 40 it’s opening week. The duet topped Khalid’s previous record “Young, Dumb & Broke,” which debuted at No. 44 back in August.
The release marks the first solo track from Normani Hamilton after Fifth Harmony’s hiatus announcement last month (March 19.) Tunji Balogun announced on Tuesday (Apr. 10) that Normani was the first artist to sign to his new joint venture Keep Cool/RCA Records. “Normani is a dynamic, multi-talented young woman with vibrant energy and a powerful spirit,” Balogun said in a statement. “We are all looking forward to watching Normani thrive and flourish as we create… unforgettable moments together.”
