Over the weekend, Kanye West released a pair of new singles — “Lift Yourself” and “Ye vs. the People” featuring T.I. — as a response to the backlash he’s faced since his social media return. T.I paid a visit to Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Wednesday morning (May 2) to detail what he and Kanye spoke about before joining forces on their newest team-up.
After a chance encounter with Kanye at a Los Angeles hotel led the two to collaborate, T.I said he felt like it was the perfect opportunity to pull Kanye aside to figure out the meaning behind his recent Twitter controversy. T.I asked Kanye about wearing the “Make America Great Again” hat, to which Kanye responded, “My subconscious spoke to my conscious and it just moved me to wear the hat.”
Later on in the interview, T.I said he asked Kanye about his thoughts on Donald Trump’s travel ban, and Kanye — seemingly unaware of the uproar Trump’s ban of immigrants and refugees from Muslim-majority countries has caused over the past year — replied, “What’s the travel ban?”
“You said you’re leading with love. If you loving this man is hurting these people, what makes him worth so much to where it cause these people so much pain?” T.I continued. Ultimately, the pair agreed to disagree and traded bars about their different political views on “Ye vs. the People,” which took a mere 45 minutes to create.
T.I’s Breakfast Club interview follows Kanye’s eventful Tuesday, where he visited TMZ Live and revealed he had plastic surgery and was addicted to opioids.
