After a surprise release of his EP My Dear Melancholy and a behind-the-scenes peek into the project’s production, The Weeknd shared the dark visual for “Call Out My Name” on Thursday (Apr. 12).
The Toronto singer — born Abel Tesfaye — first teased the video on Wednesday (Apr. 11) with a cryptic clip in which he was walking down a secluded street, cloaked in all-black as he sang the track’s lovelorn lyrics. The longer, trippier final visual revealed that while the singer walks out onto the street a swam of bats emerge from his mouth as he belts out the chorus.
Throughout the video, The Weeknd appears solo in a couple of venues: first in a movie theater, which transforms into him in the woods as the ground is set ablaze. While Tesfaye appears in his scenes alone, the video also features a series of animals, as well as a haunting bird-human hybrid peering from a futuristic high-rise balcony.
Earlier this month, The Weeknd shared an artistic lyric video for “Call Out My Name” — which features him singing on a series of TV screens as the lighting in the room turns red. The single also debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 4 in April.
