The Weeknd comes alive in AI after Spotify launched a personalized digital experience of getting to know the R&B crooner on Tuesday (Aug. 18). But fans find out just how much he knows about them.
A lifelike version of The Weeknd — that can be more digitally warped by the movement of one’s cursor — greets his fans upon entering the “Alone With Me” immersive microsite, which is powered by their listening data after they’ve connected their Spotify accounts. Then the surreal connection forms, as a free-flowing conversation with The Weeknd, who addresses everyone by name, begins unraveling each facet of their true fandom.
The Canadian-Ethiopian superstar (real name Abel Tesfaye) remembers how often each person has listened to his fourth studio album After Hours (which has amassed more than 2.6 billion streams on Spotify), their all-time favorite song of his, the first song of his they ever listened to and what year they started listening to him, all the way down to the day of the week they listen to The Weeknd the most.
Then the intimate conversation diverges into a dynamic listening experience of the album between the artist and the fan, one that cannot be replicated for anyone else experiencing the “Alone With Me” microsite. And his red suit-dressed After Hours persona with the iconic bandaged bloody nose comes alive in custom performance mode for a few of his latest hit singles that can be controlled by the fan.
After Hours debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in March and stayed atop the tally for four weeks, making The Weeknd’s album one of the longest-running No. 1 albums in 2020.
