There was a plethora of hip-hop debuts this week. Party Next Door’s “Make a Mil” made a big splash online after being posted on Drake’s October’s Very Own site. The Canadian rapper sparked rumors that he has signed the new singer as a replacement for the Weeknd. Sonically, “Make a Mil” bridges the gap between the Weeknd’s atmospheric R&B style and Drake’s harder-hitting hip-hop sound.
Raphael Saadiq’s protégé and Bubbling Under alum, Adrian Marcel, dropped his Wale-assisted remix to “Waiting.” The release is in preparation for his “Seven Days of Weak” mixtape (April 25). The original version was spun nearly 300 times on 33 stations nationwide last week. Numbers will likely increase with the addition of Wale’s verse.
