Atlanta has a history of redefining the sound of hip-hop and birthing unconventional artists. Today is no different, with emerging acts including Young Thug and Makonnen.
Makonnen has been garnering buzz with singles as “I Don’t Sell Molly No More” and “Club Going Up On a Tuesday.” But on Tuesday, Aug. 12, more were put on to Makonnen when Drake co-signed the singer-songwriter/rapper with a remix to “Club Going Up On a Tuesday.”
I caught up with Makonnen in time for this week’s episode of The Juice Podcast to talk about how the remix came to be and his take on the power of Drake’s co-sign (“It’s probably the most powerful co-sign in the game”). Check out the 16th episode of The Juice Podcast below.
Buzzfeed music editor, Naomi Zeichner (@nomizeichner), joins me as co-host this week to talk about Makonnen and the Atlanta rap scene. Naomi shared her thoughts on the evolution of her hometown’s sound, its new acts (Young Thug, Metro Boomin) and Future‘s upcoming mixtape, “Evol.”
Tell me what you think over on Twitter (@3rika)!
Check back next week for our full interview with Makonnen.
