The Game has been taking steps to promote peaceful protest and conversations between communities and police in light of the recent fatal shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and a sniper attack on Dallas officers. And his son is no different.
Harlem Caron Taylor, the rapper’s 13-year-old son, took a page out of his father’s playbook and started a GoFundMe fundraiser for an Arkansas police officer to shed light on a cop taking strides to be a positive influence. Taylor began the account with the hashtag #AGoodSonForAGoodCop.
?Officer Tommy Norman of North Little Rock Arkansas has been an advocate for change within his community, writing on his community-positive website: “If you can just take two minutes out of the day to go out and make a difference, whether checking on your neighbor if they’re elderly, cutting someone’s grass, or hold the door for someone. It’s really just acts of kindness and I think acts of kindness coming from a police officer means that much more to people because that’s not something you’re used to seeing.”
“Every police interaction does not have to be a negative one, and Officer Norman is changing that one person at a time,” Taylor wrote. “He has changed the way he approaches the community he patrols and is committed to building strong relationships with the residents.”
The Game was the first to donate on the page, starting the GoFundMe with $1,000.
“Not only am I proud of my son for taking initiative, I’m thankful that I’ve raised him with such a pure heart regardless of the negativities he’s seen me overcome,” the rapper wrote in an Instagram post promoting his son’s selfless act. “’It takes a village to raise a child’ & this good cop is going the extra mile for a lot of young African American children… #BlackLivesMatter to more than just #BlackLives #AGoodSonForAGoodCop #StayCommitted.”
The account surpassed its $50,000 goal within just one day. Rappers T.I. and Young Thug also took to Instagram to praise Officer Norman for his good work in his community.
Taylor has taken after his father in starting peaceful conversations between a community and their police force. Game recently took part in leading a march alongside Snoop Dogg to the Los Angeles Police Department graduation to “build up dialogue between the police and the community.”
