Tens across the board for Teyana Taylor, because her music videos never disappoint. Her latest video “WTP” comes from her K.T.S.E. album, which was released in June 2018, and follows Teyana into a ballroom dance-off competition. “WTP” was a favorite from the album, and the long-awaited video — directed by Taylor herself — was well worth the wait.
The eccentric video takes the style of a short film infused with ballroom culture. Inspired by Cinderella, the eight-minute short film celebrates ballroom culture and features cameos by Lena Waithe and Mykki Blanco.
Taylor first paid homage to ball culture in the “Fade” audiovisual, but the song “WTP” took it to the next level. In an interview with Billboard, Taylor describes her love for the underground LGBT subculture. “Everybody that knows me knows that I live for that. I’ve been in that scene since I was a 15-year-old. They have been sneaking me into the balls,” Teyana tells Billboard. “I have been honorary in their house. It began at a young age. So, I have always appreciated the culture. I am really just a gay boy in a woman’s body, for sure.”
Sporting an iconic red wig in the video, Miss Taylor heads to the ball, where she brings her moves and outfits to the dance floor to work it.
The end of the video also sees some intimate moments between Teyana and her husband Iman Shumpert, wrapping up the video as the full package.
