Teyana Taylor delivered an epic performance for “Issues/Hold On” on Thursday’s (April 18) episode of Ellen. Taylor teleported the audience straight to the 1970s, as the doors opened for the Harlem native following a groovy introduction from DeGeneres’ in-house DJ tWitch, who did his best Don Cornelius impression.
Taylor greeted the crowd in her shiny golden jumpsuit and got right into the soulful K.T.S.E. deep cut. Backed by a smooth live band and vocalists on the Soul Train-inspired stage, the performance went off without a hitch. A group of couples, who were properly dressed for the ocassion, also danced the night away right in front of Teyana, giving the set a truly authentic feel.
By the performance’s end, Ellen joined Teyana on the dance floor, as they even teamed up to bust a few moves together. DeGeneres then came back out and fittingly surprised the multi-talented G.O.O.D. Music artist with an RIAA plaque for her 2018 ballad “Gonna Love Me,” which had just become gold-certified.
