Teyana Taylor and her NBA player fiancé Iman Shumpert welcomed a new baby girl on Wednesday morning, born in the couple’s bathroom with the Cleveland Cavaliers guard handling the the delivery himself.
Taylor described the birth on Instagram Thursday (Dec. 17), posting an image of the newborn Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. — nicknamed Junie — held by her father.
The birth came as a quick surprise, about three weeks before the Jan. 16, 2016, expected due date the couple had previously shared. Taylor wrote that she didn’t even realize she was in labor until she felt the baby’s head and had a fast delivery at home in the couple’s bathroom — with Shumpert handling the birth himself with his own bare hands.
“Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator,” she wrote with her Instagram post, she described Shumpert cutting the umbilical cord using a pair of red headphones before the ambulance arrived five minutes later.
“She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried!”
Taylor and Shumpert got engaged in November after Shumpert proposed with a ruby engagement ring on the night of Taylor’s baby shower.
On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world. She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head…it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands! Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made there grand entrance 5 min later. She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried! He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is. She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched. Welcome Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you. #MeetTheParents we love you baby girl
