Tee Grizzley is quickly rising through the hip-hop ranks with vociferous bars garnering him serious attention leading into his debut album Activated, which fans are eager to get their hands on. The Detroit native blessed fans, premiering a fresh single on Wednesday (March 14) with Zane Lowe over at Beats 1, on which he enlists CMG’s Moneybagg Yo for “Don’t Even Trip.”
The “First Day Out” rapper detailed his admiration for the new track to Zane Lowe. “I’m used to putting pain on my lyrics. You know, I really come from nothing,” he explained. “I really tell a lot of stories. I want people to know who I am. ‘Don’t Even Trip’ gave me a chance to really put some swag on a song. I put the sauce on it.”
The single was actually supposed to be a solo track, according to Grizzley, but he knew the Memphis native was the perfect artist to hop on the beat, and the collab came to fruition within a couple hours, “I was going to do it myself, but I’m a fan of Moneybagg Yo, and as I’m bouncing to it, I’m like, ‘I hear him on this.’ I sent it to him and he loved it,” Tee says. “[Moneybagg Yo] sent it back within two hours and killed it.”
Grizzley and Moneybagg exchange braggadocious verses before the “Colors” artist concludes the track with a shout-out to incarcerated rapper Tay-K, “Two hunnid bands, what’s my advance/ I blew that shit in a month and a half/ Made it right back and I blew it again/ If I want to I can do it again/ Run up on me I’mma shoot at his head/ Shoot at his face, I got that drank/ Beat my case, free Tay-K,” he emphatically rhymes.
