TDE’s songbird, SZA, has been teasing her elusive, highly anticipated CTRL project. On Thursday (April 27), she got a step closer after Top Dawg unleashed her new record “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott on Twitter.
“Yall been killing me for it, yall been waiting and been begging for it… well, its finally here. @SZA #LoveGalore,” tweeted TDE CEO Top Dawg.
On “Love Galore,” SZA struggles with her cravings for an ex-lover, who treats her like a sidechick. “Why you bother me when you know you don’t want me? / Why you bother me when you know you got a woman? / Why you hit me when you know you know better?,” she sings. La Flame comes through with his own verse, singing, “Let me come inside ya / Let me plant that seed inside ya.”
Though Kendrick Lamar has been racking up No. 1’s with his opus DAMN., SZA could be the roster’s next artist to drop a project. In January, she released “Drew Barrymore” before her label teased in an interview with Billboard that same month that CTRL was dropping “very soon.”
The 26-year-old singer also touched on Rick Rubin’s involvement n her creative process. “I had this mentality that ‘more is more’ — more reverb, more background [vocals],” she said. “I played him a bunch of songs, and he would tell me, ‘The more you take away from any piece, the more room you create for everything else to be beautiful and grow.’ I never felt that before, the editing urge. Once you strip everything down, you’re forced to say something.”
