Hours after premiering “25 Soldiers” Wednesday (Oct. 3) as Zane Lowe’s world record on Beats 1, Swizz Beatz dropped off the Young Thug collaboration’s combative visual. The New York-bred producer’s latest single arrives as Swizzy inches toward the release of his Poison album next month.
The video finds Thugger and Swizz lacing up their boots and gearing up for battle. The lyrical warfare exuded throughout the record matches the clip’s hostile intensity. Swizz Beatz worked his magic in having the ATL native tap into a more traditional flow, featuring some bristling rhymes from the 27-year-old, who is fresh off the release of his On the Rvn EP (Sept. 24).
“This is me planting my feet back on the ground, entering the building from the ground floor, redoing the foundation of what I built over the years and not skipping over it or moving to the next building without revisiting my core because a lot of people get in my position and they just want to skip over all the lines,” the One Man Band Man artist told Beats 1.
The 40-year-old felt the need to show that he still has a firm grip on hip-hop in 2018, with the hip-hop community still watching a master at work. “I feel that you must always revisit what people really know you for and show them that you are still a master at that craft and then take them on a journey where you’re going to go from there,” said Swizz.
