Soulja Boy appeared to strike out at Kanye West after being annoyed that what he claims was his spot on the final version of ‘Ye’s long-delayed Donda album was nixed. The sprawling collection that features a long list of guests including Jay-Z, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, The Weeknd, Baby Keem, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, Lil Yachty, Fivio Foreign, Young Thug, Kid Cudi and many more finally dropped on Sunday (Aug. 29) with a sprawling, nearly two-hour, 27-track footprint.
And though that list of guest producers and performers is quite a bit longer, one person who appears to have been left out in the cold is rapper Soulja Boy, who had a harsh response when a fan asked how he felt about the album. “idk how to feel, Kanye sent me that song ‘remote control’ and I don’t hear my verse on it… hmm f— that n—a,” he tweeted.
In a second tweet, Soulja posted what he purported to be a text exchange between himself and Yeezy, captioned, “This n—- Kanye smh. Tell homie dont hit my phone no more.” In the back-and-forth, the men appeared to exchange pleasantries, with West seeming to ask Soulja Boy to come down to the studio to join him.
A spokesperson for West had not yet returned requests for comment.
In the exchange, West seemed to heap praise on Soulja Boy, saying, “I love you bro. You’re a genius. Wanna work with you on the new GAP campaign. And my new album.” The song Soulja said he was slated to appear on, “Remote Control,” instead features a verse from Young Thug.
Chris Brown also didn’t seem too excited when Donda arrived. Though he’s listed as a contributor on the album’s 18th track, “New Again,” he reportedly referred to West with the misogynistic slur “whole hoe” in an Instagram Story over the weekend. According to Complex, in the Story, Brown said “Kanye a whole hoe” just hours after the album’s release, before reportedly deleting that comment and replacing it with “Nah he tweakin’.”
It does not appear that Brown’s verse made the final version of the album, whose lineup and release date had been in flux for several months. Spokespeople for Brown and Soulja Boy have not yet returned requests for comment.
