A Van Nuys Superior Court judge sentenced Soulja Boy to 240 days behind bars and 265 hours of community service for violating his 2014 weapons probation on Tuesday (April 30), according to TMZ. Court records show that Big Draco is currently being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.
The report goes on to state that the judge had been weighing slapping Soulja with two years in jail but ultimately decided against it, citing the business opportunities he’s been missing out on. The SODMG rapper, born DeAndre Cortez Way, will also reportedly be credited with 40 days of time served.
“My client is very thankful to the judge that he only received 240 days, because the judge initially was going to sentence him to two years. Once he is released, he is committed to comply with all orders of the court and probation department,” Soulja Boy’s lawyer, Fred Minassian, relayed in a written statement to Billboard.
Soulja was initially taken into custody earlier in April for failing to comply with his community service demands, where authorities claimed the 28-year-old attempted to forge paperwork to show community service hours that he didn’t actually fulfill in reality.
Back in March, the “Crank That” artist was arrested by LAPD before a meeting with his probation officer. Law enforcement previously raided Young Draco’s Los Angeles residence in February on a warrant searching for evidence that a woman was being held against her will inside his garage. Police happened to discover ammunition at his home, which quantified as a direct violation of his probation restrictions.
