After making his mark in the hip-hop world as a notable producer, with Billboard Hot 100-climbing hits like “Tuesday” by ILoveMakonnen featuring Drake and “Birthday Song” by Kanye West featuring 2 Chainz, Sonny Digital is officially making his rapping debut. The producer announced he’s dropping his first EP, Woke You Up, on Jan. 26.
“I’m just ready to drop new music. This EP is the first one from a series of them I plan on dropping this year,” Sonny told Billboard. “As of now, this first EP has features from Lil Xan, Black Boe and Steve Cannon and the rest is me. I do have a song in the stash that I know is going platinum when I drop it!”

This announcement did not come as a complete surprise, as Sonny Digital has already made it known he can spit some serious bars on his previously released tracks “Exclusive” and “My Guy,” featuring Black Boe. Although there is no official track list yet, Sonny is known for having longtime relationships with countless hip-hop legends, such as Gucci Mane, 50 Cent, Kanye West and Future, so this project is expected to hit hard.
Sonny Digital has always been outspoken about the constant mistreatment producers receive from the music industry, stating that producers are often unfairly compensated for their valuable contributions or not given the credit they rightfully deserve. This past June, he even pitched the idea of starting a producers union, which rallied the support of his fellow producers. He’s still firm on this stance, just recently speaking out once again, this time directed at all record labels.
If you gonna call out Atlantic then you might as well call out all the labels because they all doing the same thing. Shit cash money was dropping actual albums and wasnt even paying the producers. You can’t just single out one party when all other parties doing the same. https://t.co/YaKPQfOgrn

“Why don’t producers get nominated for shit? We do all the f—in’ base work and shit, though,” Sonny said in a video he posted to Twitter. “Don’t get no awards. Don’t get no recognition. All the artists just sweep up our everything.”
