The Simpsons‘ hour-long hip-hop episode just got even bigger with the announcement Snoop Dogg, RZA and Common will be featured guests.
When the season 28 opener was first announced in August, it was revealed that Empire star Taraji P. Henson and Key & Peele‘s Keegan-Michael Key would star in the spoof of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby titled “The Great Phatsby.”
The episode is set to air in January and will focus on the destruction of a friendship between Mr. Burns and an enigmatic hip-hop mogul named Jay G with Homer narrating the tale in the style of the novel’s Nick Carroway. This will be the show’s first ever hour-long special.
“We wanted the Mt. Rushmore of rap, and we got it,” the episode’s writer Simpsons producer Dan Greaney, told Entertainment Weekly. “They represent different moods and different aspects of the history of hip-hop.”
Jim Beanz, who produces music for Empire has also created original hip-hop songs for the episode.
Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman teased the episode with EW, saying, “It’s a tale of greed, excess, betrayal, revenge, and ruthlessness, and there’s a hilarious goose in it. The goose is really funny.”
