Snoop Dogg has toyed with a variety of sounds throughout his storied career, from pop to funk and reggae, constantly finding ways to reinvent himself in an industry that’s always shifting.
Now, Snoop is making his first foray into the gospel world with the release of his upcoming album Snoop Dogg Presents the Bible of Love. In addition to that, fans will get a first taste of the album when he performs at the 19th annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration this February.
The NFL-sanctioned Super Bowl Gospel Celebration will be held at the Benson Great Hall at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota on Thursday (Feb. 1). Snoop Dogg will be joined by gospel artist Tye Tribbett, The Clark Sisters, Faith Evans and Rance Allen to introduce his upcoming album. Erica Campbell (of gospel duo Mary Mary) — as well as Sheila E., Donnie McClurkin and more — will perform at the gospel event. The NFL Choir, who will be celebrating their 10-year anniversary, will also take the stage.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will receive the first-ever Faith in Action award and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be honored with the Lifetime of Inspiration award. Insecure’s Yvonne Oriji and Pastor John Gray will host the star-studded event.
Snoop first teased plans for a gospel album on Instagram last June, when he posted a screenshot of a conversation with his mother, eager to “spread the word” thanks to her encouragement. “Praise the Lord,” she wrote to her son. “You are very welcome. The more you share with others the more you will reap more benefits. The more the Lord will enlarge your territory and bless you indeed. I am so grateful to the Lord for you and how God is moving you in the direction to bless His people through the word of God.” The same day, Snoop previewed a few tracks from the album.
Snoop Dogg Presents the Bible of Love hasn’t landed an official release date but is said to be released sometime this year. The one-hour TV special will air on BET Saturday (Feb. 3) at 11:00 pm ET, and again on Sunday (Feb. 4) at 11:00 am ET. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
