Nicki Minaj returned to Saturday Night Live on May 19 to help close out the sketch comedy show’s season 43 finale.
During her visit to the show, the 35-year-old rapper performed the song “Chun Li,” from her upcoming album, Queen, which drops on June 15. Her second performance was used to spotlight up-and-coming rapper Playboi Carti.
Last night’s SNL appearance marked Minaj’s third time as musical guest on the NBC show.
Following her first performance of “Chun Li,” where Minaj was backed by Asian dancers and featured her wearing chopsticks in her hair, social media onlookers accused the rapper of cultural appropriation.
Minaj used her second performance to highlight Atlanta rapper Carti’s song “Poke It Out,” which appears on his new album, Die Lit. Minaj has a guest feature on the track.
Minaj also appeared in an unaired SNL sketch, titled “Friendship Song,” which co-starred the evening’s host Tina Fey, along with cast members Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant. The rapper appears halfway through the skit to stick up for her friend.
“I’ll rip up her life, yo get the knife/ Because you’re low-key my wife, you’re my bitch for life,” Minaj raps in the cameo. “You’re a 10, she a two, life sucks for her/ Let’s punch her in her face and take her jewels/ It’s May, we don’t play with them April fools.”
