Earlier this week, Swae Lee promised “something special” would drop this Friday — but instead, the duo decided to gift their fans a special treat a day early. On Thursday (April 5), Slim Jxmmi debuted a new song titled “Chanel” from his side of Rae Sremmurd‘s triple-disc album, and enlisted partner Swae Lee and the legendary Pharrell Williams for the club-ready banger.
The super team takes turns trading bars over the bouncy, Mike WILL-Made It-produced track. Slim Jxmmi leads the charge with a catchy hook about draping his lady in Chanel and spoiling her with the finer things in life. “We can hit the strip right now (right now)/ I got enough bread to recline (what you saying?)/ I got enough bread to recline/ And I don’t want your head, I want your mind/ I kind of fell in love with your vibe,” he raps.
Next up, Swae Lee’s melodic verse creates the perfect segue into Pharrell’s part, as the super-producer bends his voice into many different shapes, from a syrupy falsetto to a full-throated attack mid-way through his verse, until Jxmmi returns with the hook.
SremmLife 3 has yet to receive an official release date, but Slim Jxmmi also revealed to Zane Lowe that Young Thug, Zoe Kravitz, The Weeknd and Juicy J are featured on the project. Jxmmi also adds that even though the brothers are pursuing their own solo work, Rae Sremmurd isn’t going anywhere.
“People have to understand, me and Swae are brothers, we’ve been doing this for a long time. It’s just time for us to grow our separate careers and also, our group still [and] building on that — it’s no reason not to,” he tells Lowe.
