On Wednesday (Jan. 26), actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested by New York police following an altercation with a man during his “He Will Not Divide Us” art protest against President Donald Trump. An NYPD rep confirmed LaBeouf’s arrest and release to Billboard. The actor was issued a desk appearance ticket.
The altercation took place when LeBeouf got involved in a verbal skirmish with an unknown man outside of the Museum of Moving Art in New York City. The Transformers star was said to have grabbed the man by his scarf and scratched him in the face. Video footage captures the unidentified man initially greeting LaBeouf and later telling him, “Hitler did nothing wrong.” Another clip shows the actor being taken away by police in handcuffs.
On the day of Trump’s inauguration last week (Jan. 20), LaBeouf launched a live video stream denouncing the commander-in-chief’s presidency, which is supposed to run continuously for the next four years.
LaBeouf’s foe, rapper Soulja Boy, also offered support on Twitter after his arrest. “Free Shia,” tweeted the “Crank Dat” rapper. Last December, the two sparred online after LaBeouf called out Soulja Boy in a freestyle. Following the diss, Soulja responded with an expletive-laced video message aimed at the Holes star.
“You a b—h a– n—a, you can’t never come to Atlanta,” he said. “You can’t never come to the streets in the hood. You can never live my life, n—a. You need to stick to acting, real sh-t n—a.”
