Saweetie is looking to help pave the way for the next generation of boss women. With the viral “ICY GRL” anthem already under her belt, the 24-year-old provides depth to her journey through the Friday (March 16) release of her debut project, High Maintenance.
The nine-track EP boasts bold punchlines both materialistic and inspirational with ease. “Get into your bag, stay focused and leave these bum ass n—-s alone,” she abruptly closes out the EP’s intro.
The USC grad enlists a superstar lineup of producers that many artists could only dream of working with on a single project in their career. Saweetie elegantly caresses basslines provided by her cousin Zaytoven, as well as No I.D., whom she compares to Yoda in the studio, and CashmoneyAP to name a few.
Speaking to Billboard, the Artistry/Warner Bros. artist explains that the meaning behind High Maintenance is deeper than being draped in lavish designer brands, “The relationships I have with people are very high maintenance, meaning I nurture them,” she says. “Essentially, I care for them. I also pray a lot, work out, and eat well so all aspects of my life are high maintenance… Since it’s an introductory to the game, I feel like it’s appropriate way to brand myself.”
