A week after rapper and reality TV star Safaree Samuels was robbed at gunpoint in New Jersey, losing $183,000 in cash and jewelry, video footage has emerged of the alleged incident. On Wednesday (Apr. 11), TMZ posted surveillance video of the alleged incident, in which the former star of VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop Hollywood and ex-boyfriend of Nicki Minaj is seen standing next to his vehicle in a parking garage decked out in a red fur coat as two men approach him with guns drawn.
The suspects, named by police as Shawn Harewood and Jonathan Ricketts, were caught by the NYPD shortly after the brazen holdup and in the video they are seen rifling through Samuels’ coat and forcing the rapper’s friend to lay facedown on the ground. After the scary incident, Safaree and his friend run away from the scene.
According to TMZ, Samuels knows one of the assailants, Harewood, very well, but that they haven’t spoken since Safaree broke up with Minaj in 2014 after nearly 12 years together. Samuels, 36, called 2 a.m. robbery “one of the worst, scariest nights of my life. Police Capt. Matthew Hintze said officers tried to stop an SUV near the scene, but the driver fled into New York City.
Hintze also said the driver lost control and crashed into a concrete divider, and three people ran from the scene. Harewood and Ricketts were charged with first-degree robbery. “I just got robbed at gunpoint. A couple hours ago,” Samuels told Power 105’s Angie Martinez on Tuesday (Apr. 3). “Two dudes with guns just ran up on me. Had me face down to the floor with a gun to my head. They just took everything.”
