On his ninth album Rather You Than Me, Rick Ross throws in his usual “BAWSE” drops and rhymes about his Maybach Music empire but there are several lines worth a rewind.
Whether it’s his revealing record “Idols Become Rivals” calling out Birdman (which features an assist from Chris Rock) or the sentimental opener “Apple Of My Eye” featuring Raphael Saadiq, the Miami rapper lets his bars speak for themselves.
Below are some of Renzel’s most eyebrow-raising lines.
“I told Meek I wouldn’t trust Nicki / Instead of beefing with your dog, you just give him some distance / We all make mistakes, let’s not be too specific” — “Apple Of My Eye”
With Meek Mill signed to Ross’ label, the Boss’ allegiance to his artist extends beyond making music. Here, he claims to have told Meek to not trust his ex-girlfriend, Nicki Minaj, who has close ties to the Philadelphia rapper’s foe, Drake.
“I’m happy Donald Trump became the president / Because we gotta destroy before we elevate” — “Apple Of My Eye”
This wouldn’t be the first time Rozay made headlines for speaking on the president. Last November, he dropped the visual for “Free Enterprise” where he spit the controversial lines: “Assassinate Trump like I’m Zimmerman / Now accept these words as they came from Eminem.” The lyric also contained a reference to George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Florida teen Trayvon Martin in 2012, and was later acquitted.
“Own the biggest residential pool in the U.S. / Drake and Kanye can invite every bitch they ever met / Finger f–kin b-tches in the holy water / Then I go and tell what happened to my only daughter” — “Apple Of My Eye”
Billboard can confirm that Rozay has a big a– pool (see our Atlanta adventure for MMG Weekend 2016 at Ross’ not-so-humble abode) but the part in this verse where he apparently tells his daughter about his pool rendezvous may be too close for comfort.
“Catholic record labels, n—as gettin’ raped, boy / Birdman’s a priest, moans in his synagogue” — “Idols Become Rivals”
On this buzzy record, Rick Ross lays out his relationship with Stunna, even going so far as to compare Birdman’s label and business dealings to the scandals of the Catholic church, which has been accused of sexual abuse in the past.
“Walking in the court room, sipping on the beverage / I know the judge so I got a lot of leverage / Pissing on these bitches is a fetish (R. Kelly)” — “Dead Presidents”
Ross and golden showers? We’d rather not.
“No more beefing with rappers / It’s just murder or nothin'” — “Game Ain’t Based on Sympathy”
In case MCs missed the memo, no beefing with Rick Ross.
“A pretty chick she resembled Stacey Dash / If it was her, she had to kiss my feet and lick my a–” — “Game Ain’t Based on Sympathy”
Once again, Ross leaves very little to the imagination when it comes to his bedroom behavior.
“Labels we playin’ chess / Nothin’, I’m not contested / You n—as is stupid, thinkin’ Craig Kallman won’t send his shooters / They been robbin’ for years, no fear to blow out your noodles” — “Scientology”
Craig Kallman, Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO, holds the purse strings to the label that powers Ross’ Maybach Music Group imprint. Here, Ross puts the industry on notice.
“Had a phone call with Drake so we could fix the madness / Time for the real n—as just to really cash in” — “Triple Platinum”
While Ross kept a tight lip during Meek Mill’s beef with his frequent collaborator, Drake, he seems to confirm reports that he met with the 6 God to keep the peace.
“Somebody tried to kill me, still I’m optimistic / Told the detectives “F–k ’em” and I bought a rocket missile” — “Maybach Music V”
In January 2013, the MMG rapper was the target of a drive-by shooting in Florida. Here, he claims to have taken action by copping his own hardware for protection.
