Rich Homie Quan is now placing blame for his Biggie Smalls lyric error on the teleprompter.
The Atlanta rapper received many negative responses to his performance on Monday night’s (July 11) VH1 Hip Hop Honors, when he forgot the words to the Notorious B.I.G.’s verse in “Get Money.” In an interview with Atlanta’s V-103, the rapper blamed a combination of his nerves and not having the lyrics on the teleprompter.
“I knew it by heart,” Quan said. “I told them I didn’t know all the words, and words were supposed to be on teleprompter.”

Once the words didn’t appear on the teleprompter, Quan hoped that with the energy from the crowd, he would be able to hide his mishap. The rapper also stated that although “Get Money” may be incredibly popular in the world of hip-hop, Quan — being from Atlanta — grew up listening to T.I., Outkast and other ATL rappers. The only song he knows for certain from the New Yorker is the 1994 hit “Juicy.”
Quan apologized Tuesday for the mishap in a statement, saying he did not intend to disrespect the Notorious B.I.G.
