Rich Brian (formerly known as Rich Chigga) kicked off the new year with a new name and song, “See Me,” ahead of his upcoming debut album Amen. On Tuesday (Jan. 16), Rich Brian returned with a new track for his latest single “18” and assembled an all-star cast of Trippie Redd, Kris Wu, Joji and Baauer for assistance.
Kris Wu starts thing off with his auto-tuned-coated voice gliding seamlessly over the booming, trap-based beat — pieced together by Baauer –and later shouts out Kanye West by declaring himself “I’m the Yeezus from the East/You need to Watch the Throne.”
Wu hands the baton over to Rich Brian, who feathers his gravelly baritone onto the production before Joji enters for the breakdown. As the beat’s energy rises, Trippie Redd bursts through with his melodic flow and wraps up the guest-heavy track.
Rich Brian’s debut album Amen is slated to be released on Feb. 2. On New Year’s Day, Brian announced on Twitter that he was departing from his moniker Rich Chigga because he was “naive” when he initially created it. “Yes I now go by ‘Brian.’ I have been planning to do this forever and I’m so happy to finally do it,” he wrote. “I was naive & I made a mistake. new year, new beginning, happy new years.”
