Remy Ma has come under fire during previous episodes of REVOLT’s State of the Culture for controversial comments regarding her stance on allowing white people to use the n-word, child support, and her refusal to admonish Bill Cosby. During Last Monday’s (Oct. 29) SOTC, Joe Budden, Remy, Jinx, and Scottie Beam discussed the upcoming Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which will go into further detail of Kelly’s lengthy history of sexual abuse.
The 38-year-old countered Jinx’s point that he believes R. Kelly is currently suffering from a “sickness” to mention the point that Kelly has been acquitted of any charges brought against him, even with the laundry list of legal issues that stack up against the Chicago native. She also emphasized the fact that her comments don’t indicate picking a side in the debate.
“He went to trial for it before. We had video of him getting intimate with an underage girl,” Remy Ma began. “We have another video where — I don’t think she was underaged but he was all in her…it was just crazy. I’m like, ‘Okay, so you get acquitted but you still get banished?'”
The Bronx native then went on to say that it has been the families of the alleged victims speaking out against R. Kelly, rather than those who have been directly involved in the situation.
“Even the lair that you’re talking about, it wasn’t the women that were complaining it was the mothers. It’s so weird that we live in a world where women and men do some sick shit and they be with it,” she said. “If your daughter’s 14, 15, 16, 17 and she wants to fuck a guy who’s twenty anything and thirty anything, you’re fighting against it. I’m not saying that he’s right, but from history he’s been labeled as being illiterate. What I’m saying is, he’s not the brightest, but he’s talented.”
One of State of the Culture‘s directors hopped on Twitter to clear up Remy’s comments, which she believes are being taken out of context. “She’s painting the history and speaking facts. SOTC didn’t hold a conversation about R. Kelly being a rapist, but him overall being sick into abuse, pedophilia & dark sexual past including claims in his documentary,” Lyric wrote.
