As part of Billboard’s Black History Month celebration, we’ve asked Black artists spanning all genres to compile their own unique playlist exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. Each song they’ve chose represents their love for the culture across the diaspora — from childhood favorites to songs that make them feel free. Today, Rapsody shares her soundtrack.
“There is no revolution that women aren’t the backbone of, and this music is all about our sisters,” Rapsody says. “I learned how to be the woman I am because of them. A playlist celebrating the women of black history who lead with strength, love, beauty, dignity and pride from the sacrifices of Assata Shakur to the motherly love of Phylicia Rashad. Thank you.”
Following the release of her Grammy-nominated album Laila’s Wisdom in 2018, Rapsody is currently wrapping up her third studio album, which should be out this year.
