In the latest episode of “You Should Know,” Billboard catches up with “Ransom” rapper Lil Tecca to find out the story behind his stage name, which artists have most inspired his music, who would play him in a movie, and much more.
Asked how he came up with the name Lil Tecca, the rapper tells Billboard that both he and another girl he knew were called Tecca, so she called him Lil Tecca, which he decided to use when he started rapping.
As for who he considers to be his biggest musical inspirations, Lil Tecca names Speaker Knockerz and Chief Keef. He also reveals that he would love to collaborate with Lil B because his brother used to listen to him, and he thinks his music is fun.
Posed with the question of who would play him in a movie, Lil Tecca notes that people think he looks like “the dude from Everybody Hates Chris,” although he doesn’t really see it.
In the interview, Lil Tecca discusses his music making process, as well, explaining that it depends whether the beat is fast or slow. “I freestyle all the time but not one take.” he states. “I punch it line by line.”
