Rae Sremmurd brought Billboard into their trailer backstage at Hard Summer Festival in August for Billboard’s Snapchat feature Artist Pass. Gearing up for their wild set, the duo gave insight into what it’s like to live the SremmLife after their rapid rise to fame.

Rae Sremmurd broke out in 2015 with their debut SremmLife and proved their position on top with the 2016 mega-hit “Black Beatles” off their sophomore record, but the duo explains they had to work in order to be playing major festivals and releasing hits.
Swae Lee said, “We were broke for 10 years having no success. We just kept doing it because we wanted to. We would mow a yard if we had to, whatever it took to get a dollar, we’ll do it … always hungry, always working.”
Swae Lee explained he and his brother Slim Jxmmi got up and moved from Tupelo, Mississippi, to Atlanta in order to work with big names like Mike Will Made-It to pursue their dream. Lee said, “Timing is just everything. If something big is supposed to happen for you, it’s going to happen. We got in touch with the right people, got in the right location, and everything just lined up perfectly for us. We ended up just taking off.”
Since the two have made the right connections and recorded their bangers, their ultimate SremmLife has become a reality. Slim Jxmmi said, “I used to dream about stuff like this, so it’s a dream come true. It’s a blessing they even accept us.”
