Pusha T and Drake‘s war of words quickly escalated on Tuesday night when Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex rolled out Pusha’s blistering response track “The Story of Adidon,” in which the G.O.O.D Music head honcho hurled shots at Drake over JAY-Z‘s “The Story of OJ” beat.
“Virginia Williams shan’t ever be mentioned in song by ANYONE aside from me,” Pusha wrote, referring to his fiancée, who Drake mentioned in his “Duppy Freestyle” diss record. Holding nothing back, Pusha shared the cover art of his diss record, which showed Drake in blackface, and on the actual track, he got personal by alleging that Drake has a secret son by a former porn star, all while calling out the rapper’s parents, Dennis and Sandi Graham, and Drizzy’s go-to collaborator Noah “40” Shebib.
Take a look every topic Pusha T touched on in his ruthless diss.
“The Story of Adidon”
“Drug dealin’ aside, ghostwritin’ aside/ Let’s have a heart-to-heart about your pride/ Even though you’re multi, I see that your soul don’t look alive/ The M’s count different when Baby divides the pie, wait/ Let’s examine why”
Pusha T has questioned Drake’s pen game several times before, most notably on the Daytona album cut “Infrared,” which reignited the rappers’ longstanding beef when Pusha dropped his album on May 25. However, in the opening lines of “The Story of Adidon,” Pusha makes it clear he’s moving past the ghostwriting allegations to challenge Drake’s line from “Duppy Freestyle” in which Drizzy tells Pusha to “holla at me when you multi-million.”
Pusha doesn’t buy Drake’s claim and says that despite the “God’s Plan” rapper making several hit records, Drake’s money is split between a bunch of people, including Birdman (“Baby”) who owns Cash Money, which is the parent label of the Lil Wayne-helmed Young Money imprint.
“Your music for the past few years been angry and full of lies/ I’ll start it at the home front, “I’m on One”/ Dennis Graham stay off the ‘Gram, bitch, I’m on one/ You mention wedding ring like it’s a bad thing/ Your father walked away at 5, hell of a dad thing/ Marriage is somethin’ that Sandi never had, Drake/ How you a winner, but she keep comin’ in last place?”
Here, Push brings up Drake’s father, Dennis Graham, who has built a massive following on Instagram (367k followers and counting) for his “life-of-the-party” persona, celebrity pictures and, of course, supporting his son’s music releases. Then, Pusha delivers a gut-punch by brushing off Drake name-dropping his fiancee Virginia Williams in “Duppy Freestyle” and reminds the Toronto rapper how ironic it was for him to bring up Williams when his parents got divorced when he was just 5 years old and his mother, Sandi, hasn’t been married since.
“Monkey-suit Dennis, you parade him/ A Steve Harvey-suit n—a made him/ Confused, always felt you weren’t Black enough/ Afraid to grow it ’cause your ‘fro wouldn’t nap enough”
Push continues to take aim at Drake’s father, Dennis, for his suit collection, which Pusha believes favors the sharp suits Steve Harvey often wears and have become the comedian’s trademark style over the years. Since Drake is biracial — his mother is white and dad is African-American — Pusha teases Drake for not being comfortable with his identity, which is likely the reason Pusha chose a photo of Drake painted in blackface for the cover art. This line and cover art could also be connected to the line from Pusha’s “Infrared,” in which he states, “And they ain’t even recognize Hov until Annie/ So I don’t tap dance for the crackers and sing Mammy.”
“Since you name-dropped my fiancée/ Let ’em know who you chose as your Beyoncé/ Sophie knows better, ask your baby mother/ Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her/ A baby’s involved, it’s deeper than rap/ We talkin’ character, let me keep with the facts”
Drake’s alleged baby mother, former porn star Sophie Brussaux, becomes the next target on Pusha’s hit list. Pusha exposes Drake for trying to hide the fact that he impregnated a former porn star and while he made efforts to clean up her image for social media, Pusha believes that she nor Drake can escape her past life. Pusha adds that his beef with Drake is “deeper than rap” and questions Drizzy’s character since he may or may not have fathered a secret child with Brussaux.
A day after Pusha released his diss record, The Shade Room posted a series of pictures of a woman who they believe to be the mother of Drake’s alleged child.
“You are hiding a child, let that boy come home/ Deadbeat mothafucka, playin’ border patrol, ooh/ Adonis is your son/ And he deserves more than an Adidas press run, that’s real/ Love that baby, respect that girl/ Forget she’s a porn star, let her be your world, ugh”
Pusha continues to expose Drake for allegedly fathering a secret child and calls the “Nice for What” rapper a “deadbeat” dad for neglecting his fatherly duties. According to Pusha, Drake’s alleged son is named Adonis, which is eerily similar to the rumored name of Drake’s upcoming Adidas collaboration Adidon (hence the title of Pusha’s diss record).
“How dare you put Ye in my verses?/ I’m selfish, I want all of the curses/ I’m pre-bookin‘ the churches/ Me versus three hearses/ If we all go to hell it’ll be worth it”
In “Duppy Freestyle,” Drake not only fired back at Pusha, but he also dragged Kanye West into the mix, rapping, “Father had to stretch his hands out and get it from me/ I pop style for 30 hours, then let him repeat/ Now, you poppin’ up with the jokes, I’m dead, I’m asleep/ I just left from over by y’all puttin’ pen to the sheets/ Tired of sittin’ quiet, and helpin’ my enemies eat.” In that line, Drake reminded his haters that he helped write West’s “Father Stretch My Hands” and “30 Hours.” However, Pusha believes Kanye shouldn’t have been brought up because Pusha wants the feud to stay between him and Drake.
“Already aligned with the greats, and on that same note/ The only ones I chase are two ghosts/ Still givin’ you classics, that’s the only thing that dates me”
When Drake closed out “Duppy Freestyle,” Drizzy warned Pusha and his G.O.O.D Music team that he’s sending an invoice that needs to be paid for all the publicity Pusha is going to receive from their beef. Drake followed up by posting a draft of an invoice, requesting $100,000 for “Promotional assistance and career reviving.”
In these lines on Pusha’s response track, the Daytona rapper makes it clear that Drake can’t end his rap career because he’s known for making classic records since bounding onto the scene with his brother, No Malice, as Virginia-bred group Clipse.
“OVO 40, hunched over like he 80, tick, tick, tick/ How much time he got? That man is sick, sick, sick/ I got the devil flow, nigga, six, six, six/ Surgical summer with it, snip, snip, snip/ And you don’t really want it with him”
The last person Pusha takes aim at is Noah “40” Shebib, Drake’s right-hand producer and fellow OVO member who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 22 and has since become an ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To many, Pusha’s bars may seem harsh, but the rapper isn’t remorseful, as Pusha warned that he has “the devil flow,” possibly challenging Drake who calls himself the “6 God.”
Shortly after Pusha released the record, 40 hopped on Twitter and wrote, “Coincidentally… tomorrow is World MS Day.” When Pusha spoke with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club hosts on Wednesday morning (May 30), he was asked whether he was aware it was Multiple Sclerosis Day, to which he responded, “Wow, that’s ironic.”
