Alt-J unleashed the Twin Shadow version of the indie rock band’s Relaxer standout cut “In Cold Blood” on Thursday. The genre-blending rework features vocals from Virginia-bred rapper Pusha T, and they performed it live for the firs time Thursday night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
The British trio hit the stage along with Twin Shadow for what looked to be a performance of the original “In Cold Blood” — until Pusha T made a cameo nearly two minutes into the fresh rendition. King Push rhymes at a noticeably slower pace in order to properly caress the ominous beat. “The summer’s mine, that’s underlined/ King Push, Kingpin put none over mine/ Dope boys workin’ overtime/ Lotta hustle, got an open mind,” he raps.
The unexpected collaboration found its way onto streaming services shortly after the enthralling performance. Alt-J is gearing up to take over New York’s Forest Hills Stadium on Friday night (June 15), in what will be the group’s largest headlining North American concert yet.
