The 2017 BET Awards will feature a tribute to Prodigy by Mobb Deep partner Havoc and Lil Kim, according to TMZ. Havoc and Lil Kim will reportedly honor the late rapper, who passed away on Tuesday (June 20), with personal statements during the show, which airs Sunday night (June 25).
Billboard has reached out to a representative for the BET Awards for comment.
Prodigy died at the age of 42 following a battle with sickle cell disease, which he had dealt with since birth.
As Mobb Deep, Prodigy and Havoc released Juvenile Hell, their debut album, in 1993. Their sophomore album, 1995’s The Infamous, went on to become a hardcore hip-hop classic. Together, they had eight top 10 albums on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, three of of which made it to No. 1.
Lil Kim worked with Mobb Deep on their remix for 1999’s “Quiet Storm,” which was released as a single from the duo’s Murda Muzik album.
