Princess Nokia re-issued her 2014 debut album Metallic Butterfly on Friday (Dec. 14), with some special treats for her fans.
This reissue of Metallic Butterfly is a remastered and expanded version of her full-length debut album, which Nokia refers to as her “genesis,” and it includes three new bonus tracks. Princess Nokia (born Destiny Frasqueri), has remastered her Metallic Butterfly hits like “Dragons” and “Young Girls” to celebrate the four-year anniversary of the album.
“Metallic Butterfly isn’t a new album-it’s the album that started it all,” Nokia wrote on Twitter. “Metallic Butterfly is an experimental album that was inspired by many different elements of music and sub culture. When the music industry wanted me to rap I chose to be different and show the world who I really was.”
To commemorate how special her Metallic Butterfly era was to her, the trip-hop rapper also shared a handwritten letter that she wrote on the day of the album’s original release. “It took me a long time to get to where I am, but I am here and it is everywhere I want to be,” she observantly wrote.
