Merry Postmas! After promising fans that he’d give them someone new under the three before year’s end, Post Malone made good early Monday morning (Dec. 24) with a fresh track whose title says it all: “Wow.” The song, which bounces along on a tick-tock beat and deep bass thrum, is a chronicle of Post’s rise to fame, with a bit of score-settling along the way.
“Before I dropped Stoney none of ya’ll really cared/ Now they always say, ‘Congratulations’ to the kid/ And this is not a 40, but I’m pourin’ out this shit/ Used to have a lot, but I got more now/ Made another hit ‘cuz I got bored now,” he raps over the spare track before dropping into the sing-songy chorus: “Hunnid bands in my pocket, it’s on me/ Hunnid deep when I roll like the army/ Get more bottles, these bottles are lonely/ It’s a moment when I show up, got ’em sayin’ ‘Wow’ (wow wow).”
The song is the first new music from Post since the release of his sophomore beerbongs & bentleys album earlier this year, following up on his recent collaboration with Swae Lee on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse single “Sunflower.” Back on Dec. 13, Post teased the new music, writing, “Song before the year ends.” If that’s not enough, you can catch Post perform remotely from Brooklyn as part of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2019.
