Now that Bud Light lover Post Malone fancies himself as a bit of a wine connoisseur, it’s only right he spent some time trying to perfect his own-branded bottle of rosé in the South of France prior to the release of his new album. Beats 1’s Zane Lowe caught up with Posty for an extensive 40-minute chat at a vineyard talking all things Hollywood’s Bleeding on Friday (Sept. 6).
Three albums in, Post says his hitmaking days are behind him. “Honestly, the whole thing is such a blur because these last couple of years have felt like two weeks… it’s wild, but I’m not trying to make anything massive,” he said. “I’m not trying to make hit records. I’m just trying to make something that I love.”
Malone also reflected on a “terrifying” 2018 flight that was forced to make an emergency landing after blowing two tires. An FAA report revealed that flight officials failed to take a number of safety precautions prior to takeoff. “It was pretty terrifying. The feeling that you have up there? I’m terrified of flying already. I’m already terrified of flying,” Post admitted. “If I was going down, and I knew I was going down, I wished they just told me. But they just kept me flying up there for like four or five hours. It was pretty awful.”
Lowe then pressed the Texas transplant about the plethora of star-studded collaborations on the album, after Post whittled down the 50 songs he recorded to a more compact 17. “I don’t want to think of it as business — business is on the back end,” Posty said when giving his thoughts on the art of collaboration. “I think music, at the end of the day, has nothing to do with fucking business. Music has to do with people.”
The late Mac Miller was actually the first one to shout Posty out on twitter when he was just a burgeoning artist. “Mac was the first one that tweeted me,” Malone recalled. “It’s so weird, because I listened to him since the beginning. I was like, ‘Yeah, awesome. This guy’s cool as shit.’ Yeah. We were going to make an album. We were sitting there playing beer pong and we were like, ‘Let’s make a fucking album.'”
Earlier in 2019, a song titled “Fuck the Internet” leaked online featuring Posty and Kanye West. When the album released on Friday (Sept. 6), West was nowhere to be found on “Internet.” Malone confirmed that West is credited on the song because they “wrote it together.”
